The guitar has been an integral part of Dan Mervak’s life since he began playing at the age of 10. Dan received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music from Southern Connecticut State University. He also received musical training at Wayne State University. He has studied with Lee Dyament, Brian Roberts and internationally renowned virtuoso Martha Masters.
Dan has taught guitar professionally for over twenty years. He currently teaches at his home studio in Kalamazoo in both traditional and Suzuki styles. He teaches guitar at Kalamazoo College and also teaches courses in guitar, music appreciation, music theory and improvisation at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. In addition to teaching, he has performed as both a soloist and as a member of chamber ensembles. He is a two-time prize winner of the American Guild of Music competition in both the regional and national divisions.
Dan is a certified Suzuki teacher and Music Mind Games teacher. He is a member of The Suzuki Association of the Americas, The Guitar Foundation of America and the The Kalamazoo Area Music Teachers Association. He is a board member for The Connecting Chords music festival.
